This actually happened.
A contractor is going to paint your house. On March 11th.
You give him a deposit and start clearing away around your house for the ladders. You move everything away from the windows. You take off work and make other arrangements for the Big Day.
Then you get a Cash App refund of your deposit. Explanation is that the deposit was just for him to know that you were serious. It didn’t have anything to do with whether he would actually do the job. He just needed to know YOU were serious. It didn’t mean that HE was serious. Or professional.
So, deposits are just for security of the contractor.
The deposit was returned and the contractor explained that another customer came up with more money for a job the same day and he took the better job, too bad about yours, and good luck.
The most appalling part of this: Good Look Painters *does not see a problem with this perspective on Deposits and what they are for.
More simply: You could be ready to transact, and get nothing.
To their credit, they will return your deposit. They’re unreliable, not crooks.
